Curriculum

At Ardgowan we teach from the NZ Curriculum

At our school, we are committed to unlocking every student's full potential. We embrace the updated New Zealand Curriculum Te Mātaiaho content - The New Zealand Curriculum, delivering evidence-based teaching that is focused on both academic excellence and wellbeing.

Structured Literacy & BSLA:

At Ardgown, we use the Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA); a structured, systematic approach to reading and writing. This programme focuses explicitly on phonics, oral language, and vocabulary.

Structured Maths & PR1ME:

We dedicate significant time each week to building strong mathematical foundations through explicitly sequenced teaching structured approaches to maths - New Zealand Curriculum. To deliver this, we use the Ministry approved PR1ME Mathematics programme. It uses a concrete - pictorial - abstract progression to foster deep conceptual mastery and problem-solving PR1ME in a New Zealand context.

Social Science, Science, Technology, The Arts, Health and Physical Education and Maori form our integrated curriculum.

Our school day is broken into 4 sessions. The 3 morning sessions are devoted to our core curriculum and the afternoon sessions are used for our integrated curriculum areas.

We work on cycles to cover all aspects of the curriculum.
